What has been attributed in stories to an act of divine intervention however may have grounds in reality thanks to new research by Klaus Reicherter who believes that the event may have actually taken place. In 479 BC, Herodotus wrote about the incident by describing a great backwards ebb of the sea followed by a massive wave that washed away the Persian soldiers.
By examining shells and other data retrieved from the sea floor Klaus was able to validate the story by determining that a tsunami occured in the region at the time the incident was said to have occured.
