The enormous animals are traditionally portrayed as monstrously heavy, with thundering footsteps and a huge bulk adding to their fearsome appearance.
Dinosaurs are often portrayed as heavy, lumbering beasts - now it seems that this wasn't the case.
A team at the University of Manchester have used laser technology to perform new calculations on the body mass of dinosaurs, what they found was that many species of dinosaur would have weighed far less than you would expect. The colossal Brachiosaurus for example which was estimated to weigh up to 80 tons was more likely to weigh around 23 tons.
"Our method provides a much more accurate measure and shows dinosaurs, while still huge, are not as big as previously thought," said Dr Bill Sellers.
